Collision induced fragmentation of the CO_2 cation

A combined experimental and theoretical study of the collision-induced dissociation of CO_2~+ ions colliding with He in the energy range of 1 to 9 keV is presented. As a mean to investigate the collision dynamics of this molecular ion, total cross sections for ionic dissociation products are measured and calculated. A remarkable change on the dissociation dynamics is resolved. For the C~+ dissociation product, the collision is fully described by electron dynamics (END) approach with the possible isomerization of the CO_2~+ being discarded at these collision energies.
