摘要

This study proposes a novel approach to study arterial remodeling in organ culture based on response to controlled changes in the local mechanical environment of endothelial and smooth muscle cells. The feasibility of the method is illustrated by studying, in porcine carotid arteries, the effects of circumferential and axial wall stress and luminai shear stress on geometry, mechanical response and a set of selected biological markers associated with remodeling.
