A 3.8-m aperture optical-infrared telescope will be constructed next to the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, NAOJ,NINS. The telescope will have an 18-segmented mirror as the primary, which will be grinded with extremely highprecision. The telescope will have an ultra-light mounting. These new features are the key technologies for giganticnext-generation telescopes. The telescope will be a powerful tool to investigate various astronomical fields includinghigh-energy transient phenomena and extrasolar planets.
