Bringing School Science to Life:Personalization, Contextualization and Reflection of Self-Collected Data

We investigate the use of mobile and sensortechnologies for school science investigations, tobring about a more engaging and hands-onapproach to science learning. We report earlyfindings from two trials carried out within theParticipate project, where schoolchildren weregiven a range of off the shelf and newlydeveloped technologies to carry out datacollection and analysis tasks. Indications arethat, not only are the tasks engaging for thepupils, but aspects such as personalization ofdata, contextual information, and reflectionupon both the data and its collection, areimportant factors in obtaining and retainingtheir interest.
