STUD SAT- A STUDENT PICO SATELLITE FOR IMAGING

This paper will describe the overall structure of the proposed pico satellite; Stud Sat. Stud Sat abbreviated for "STUDent SATellite" is a unique and joint project which involves active participation of students from undergraduate level spread across the Indian subcontinent. The Stud Sat team will develop a working prototype Pico-satellite that conforms to the Cubesat standard of total mass less than 1 kg and dimensions of 100 x 100 x 113.5 mm. We will, by the end of April next year, build a flight ready model of Stud Sat, after rigorous testing and verification of our design. The Stud Sat is geared for shorter mission life times of about 4 months in Sun-Synchronous Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The project will demonstrate the use of CMOS camera for imaging earth with a desired resolution and demonstrate on board compression using JPEG 2000.
