We have entered in an international lunar global exploration era. After ESA SMART-1, we have currently the Chinese Chang'El lunar orbiter and Japanese SELENE-Kaguya orbiter in 2007, and the Indian Chandrayaan-1 orbiter and US lunar reconnaissance orbiter in 2008. From 2009 a series of penetrators and soft lander missions to the Moon are under study. Those science and technology missions will serve as precursor missions and tools for development for future human exploration of the solar system. We shall review, with emphasis on societal aspects and space architecture, the roadmap for robotic and human exploration of the Moon.
