Chang'E-1 is the first lunar exploration mission of China, which was launched on Oct. 24, 2007. The main objective of the program is to acquire the 3-D image of the moon surface, analyze the content and the distribution of the useful elements, explore the lunar soil thickness and estimate the resource of He-3, and explore the space environment of the moon. The payload system consist of stereo camera and Sagnac-based interferometer image spectrometer, laser altimeter, microwave radiometer, Gamma and X ray spectrometer, high energy ion detector, solar wind detector and the payload data management system. The Payload Data Management System (PDMS) is consists of Bus Controller, Solid State Recorder, High Rate Multiplexer, Remote Terminal and Power Distributor. It is a distributed system based on the 1553B data bus. All the science data are acquired, processed, stored by the system and transmitted to the ground via S band channel. The data format accords with the CCSDS AOS standards. The architecture and characteristic of the system will be introduced in the paper. The orbital commissioning results and the current status of the system will also be described in detail.
