In this paper,the investigation of profile and placement optimization for piezoelectric shunt damping system(PSDS)is performed for vibration control of a thin plate.The equation to calculate the electrical charges induced by the strains of piezoelectric patches(PZT patches)is derived from the piezoelectric equation and the theory of material mechanics.The finite element model of a clamped thin aluminum plate with PZT patches is built using ANSYS(R)software,the effects of additional stiffness and additional mass of the bonded PZT patches are considered in the modeling,the modal strains of the PZT patches are used to calculate the amount of electrical charges,which is the objective function in the profile and placement optimization.The optimal profile of the PZT patches is obtained by topological optimization,and the optimization of placement for PZT patches is also conducted.Base on these results,some concluding remarks are proposed for the profile and placement optimization of PZT patches in designing PSDS.
