For the correct operation of the road lighting devices and for assuring the appropriate photometric parameters on the lit road, it is very important to schedule performing the maintenance operations of the mentioned devices. When referring to the exploitation of the lighting points, the maintenance operations concern first of all the operations related to the light sources replacement and luminaires cleaning, including replacement with the new ones, in case the ageing changes during their exploitation do not allow providing the appropriate lighting parameters. By providing the appropriate schedule of the maintenance operations, it is possible to obtain the appropriate qualitative and quantitative lighting parameters and moreover it allows identifying the optimum maintenance factors for the designed road lighting.In the article, there have been presented the results of the laboratory research concerning exploitation changes of the road lighting luminaries efficiency when operating in the real conditions in selected points at the Pozna(n) city territory, (population of approximately 600000 inhabitants).The working environments of the lighting points have been divided into four categories that differ in the road vehicle traffic intensity, medium-annual dust sedimentation and road communication importance for the city. On the bases of the results from performed research and data obtained from the light sources manufacturers, concerning the exploitation decrease of the lamps luminous flux and their burn out in time, there have been proposed the appropriate procedures of performing the lighting points maintenance operations in the road lighting and the maintenance factor values appropriate for these procedures.
