Research of Lamp SPD Effects on the Perception of Interior Spaces: The Current State of Knowledge

This article discusses the impact of light source spectral power distribution on the perception of illuminated spaces at photopic levels. There have been many investigations of this issue. A collaborative study between the University of Sheffield and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has the objective of critically reviewing this body of evidence in order to determine possibilities for tuning the spectral power distribution of interior lighting to optimise comfort, performance and energy consumption. The first stage of this work is to review the experimental techniques used in previous work, thus to identify reliable evidence and enable different studies to be collated. Subsequently, the results will be used to develop models of visual response that can be used by lamp manufacturers to create light sources tailored to human vision.
