This paper analyzes the color reproduction characteristics of DLP projector. Some factors, such as lamp lumen output, the spectrum transmittance and color wheel, influence the quality of reproduced image. The thesis gives an analytical approach based on color wheel. RGBW color wheel advances approximately 20% brightness more than RGB traditional color wheel. It may bring the problem of color distortion of reproduced image. When referring to the color reproduction characteristics, brightness and color gamut are introduced. Looking for the reasonable proportion of angles of RGBW channels is the main problem. In order to address this problem, RGB and RGBW theoretical models are established in the Y-xy space. Y is the brightness, xy is the chromaticity coordinates. According to comparing practical model which is established by the output dates from practice experiment with RGBW theoretic model, the two gamut areas are approximately the same, but the brightness of them have some differences. The practical projector should have its special way to add the amount of white light.
