This is an account of the installation of an FMtransmitter facility for KPFR on Mount Hood in Oregonwith 15 feet of snow on the ground and no landlinetelephone facility. Remote control for the transmitterwas originally a simple interface with a cellulartelephone connected to the remote control system, usingtouch-tone commands for control and voice responsefor monitoring. Eventually, a control system wasdeveloped for the site with a wireless wideband dataservice provider with Internet access that not onlyprovided flexible transmitter control and monitoring, but real-time program delivery as well.
