Developments of urban traffic industry have great impacts on the effectiveness of bus operation. Buses face the challenge of competing with other transport modes such as car, taxi, and so on in a multimode traffic system. The existing bus schedules consist of departure and arrival time at main stations on the urban road network. However, they did not consider the delay as buses are stopping at main stations. A detailed timetable, on the other hand, consists of the departure and arrival times of its line route, always could not overcome the delay resulted from other traffic modes. In this paper, a new integer programming(IP) formulation for bus scheduling problem based on a space-time network is developed; at the same time, a new method to coordinate bus scheduling operation with an attempt to reduce travel times of public transit vehicles is proposed. Our approach includes some realistic constraints that have not been previously considered as well as all the assumptions and practical issues considered by the earlier works, further more, through a study case, we prove this IP program is applicable for bus scheduling operations.
