Total engineering education: the way to shape our future leadership

摘要

This paper highlights the economic, political and socio-cultural aspects of engineering education in China. "Total Engineering Education" (TEE) is proposed as a way to shape the future leadership of the country. TEE encompasses the entire engineering education and profession preparation system, beginning from the primary school programs through high school graduation, to post-secondary and graduate education. Critical issues of TEE implementation in China are discussed which include general engineering education for different levels and professions, cooperative education with industries, curriculum reform to address the technology frontiers and globalization requirements, innovation oriented education, faculty development and so on.
