The experimental apparatus of ice storage air-conditioning system is constructed and developed. The characteristics of ice storage air-conditioning system during charging period are experimentally investigated. The coolant temperature variation curves in the evaporator and the storage tank are respectively depicted through conducting charging process experiments. The refrigerant temperature variation curves in the evaporator and the compressor discharge port are also characterized. The charging process experiments are carried out to determine the refrigeration capacity, coefficient of performance of the chiller in ice storage mode and the cool storage capacity in the storage tank. The results show that the coolant temperature difference between inlet and outlet in the evaporator, the refrigerant evaporating temperature and discharging temperature of the compressor, the refrigeration capacity and coefficient of performance of the chiller during ice latent heat storage period can maintain stable. The cool storage capacity in the storage tank approximately increases in linearity with charging time. This indicates the ice storage air-conditioning system may stably operate.
