Changing your Power Factor Correction, (PFC), converter from a low frequency,(sub 100kHz), to a higher frequency design seems rather straight forward althoughthere are some challenges. The most obvious advantage is the physical size reductionof reactive components; the toughest challenges are controlling frequency dependentlosses and layout of high frequency current loops. Recent advances in Silicon CarbideSchottky rectifiers are increasing the efficiency of PFC converters and this efficiencygain can be traded off for higher frequency operation. This paper will try to show yousome of the process of increasing frequency and making trade-offs that will hopefullygive you a close to optimal design.
