摘要

The authors extend the traditional Rankine equation to ascertain the fire resistance of a steel column during a compartment fire. This simple and direct approach can be performed manually. It should be highlighted that both the axial and flexural boundary restraints, together with creep strain, are incorporated into the formulation. Through the verifications against relevant results, the proposed formula predicts accurately, consistently and slightly on the conservative side.
