There are multiple formulas to estimate pile ultimate load under compression and/or tensile load. Much of these formulas calculate separately both the shaft and toe contribution. Their application to piles and soils different from those, which the formula was created for, must be done with caution. 34 tensile and 12 compression load test were carried out in an experimental field, reaching failure or high levels of strain. Tested piles diameters varied from 0.20 to 0.30 m while their lengths varied from 3.50 to 6.50 m. A prediction formula with a SPT basis is proposed to estimate the load capacity of bored piles in clayey soils of Libertad-Dolores formation. The elements that highlight and potencialize this article are: 1. SPT is the most common test in our country to determine the bearing capacity. It has many retractors, but it is simple and clear and has an extensive international bibliography as background; 2. the tests were done by 3 piling companies, fact that did not modify the obtained model The methodology applied is the first step to the rationalization of foundation projects and the creation of and environment to match results in the practice of the geotechnical engineering in Uruguay.
