In the Dutch situation about eighty percent of the yearly clay-brick production is produced using the soft mud process. In this research the soft mud process is used on laboratory scale to mold mixtures with a high percentage of granulate. Points of interest are the workability of the mixtures, the drying process, the plasticity behavior and the thermal behavior by means of TMA. The 'green' clay-bricks are dried and the strength after drying is measured. Also the plasticity of mixtures with an increasing amount of granulate are determined. The Pfefferkorn test is performed to determine the plasticity behavior of the mixtures. Thermal mechanic analyzes (TMA) provides the required information in order to develop a firing curve. The 'green' clay-bricks are fired in a gas heated chamber kiln and the final product is tested.
