This paper describes a study of chloride penetration into seven reinforced concrete road bridges in and around Goeteborg on the west coast of Sweden. The bridges represent typical Swedish reinforced concrete motorway bridges with an age between 25-35 years and a w/b between 0.45-0.50. The chloride ingress is determined as chloride penetration profiles, where the quotient between chloride and calcium content at different depths from the surface is shown. The results show on large variations in chloride penetration both between different bridges but also on one single bridge. The variations in chloride ingress can be explained mainly by variations in the environmental actions but also variations in the material properties and execution during construction.
