The main purpose of this work was to develop an asymmetric wedge-test for characterizing interfacial degradation of structural adhesive joints in various environments (water, ethylene glycol,..) and for discriminating between surface treatments of substrates. A 2D numerical model was created in order to choose an adequate geometry and to underline the effects of test parameters. The asymmetric wedge test was then applied for studying the influence of an excimer laser treatment on the adhesion properties of a sintered aluminium nitride (AlN300~R from Boostec industries, Bazet, France) and on the degradation of the AlN/epoxy interface in ethylene glycol/water solution at 70°C.
