REQUIREMENTS ON TIO2 PIGMENTS FOR THE MB INDUSTRY

The outstanding optical properties of titanium dioxide, such as brightness and high tinting strength, make it themost commonly used white pigment in polyolefins, styrene polymers and engineering plastics.Masterbatches are a suitable and time-proven means for incorporating pigments into polymers in sufficientlydispersed condition.In order to achieve optimum processability during batching and the subsequent processes, as well as the associatedmaximum development of the optical properties and stability in the end-product, TiO2 pigments are given specialsurface treatment and thus matched to the carrier polymer and the properties required in the ultimate application.The present paper discusses the influence of various TiO2 pigments on rheological properties, throughput and stateof dispersion in masterbatch production, as well as their impact on the optical properties, UV stability andmanufacture of the end-product.
