The development of the LN-100 Silicon strain gage on a flexible polyimide backing, presented at the Fall 2000-Sensors Expo, has been extended to reduce the temperature sensitivity of silicon gages while maintaining a high gage factor. We report the new generation of LN-100 with considerably reduced temperature-sensitivity, on both aluminum and steel substrates, over an extended temperature range from -40 to +130 °C. Gage factors are between 110-140 while the apparent strain is only +-300 microstrains over this broad temperature range. Linear response is demonstrated over a strain range of +-3,000 micro-strains. Ongoing efforts targeting the minimization of silicon gages' transverse sensitivity are also described.
