CREEP PROPERTIES OF MgO AND ALUMINA BASED SELF-FLOWING CASTABLES

In this study, the creep properties of basic and alumina based self-flowing castables (SFC) are investigated at 1500°C. Creep tests applied to the samples B and K dried at 110°C, the samples MA and MSp heat-treated at 1500°C. In MgO based SFC Dead Sea Periclase (DSP from Israel) as coarse and medium grain and fused magnesia as fine grain are used. To counteract hydratation two different dispersants are used. DTA and TGA analysis show that the dispersants reduce hydratation. MgO based samples MA heat treated at 120, 850 and 1500°C have Cold Crushing Strength (CCS) sequence 68, 28 ve 73 MPa, Modules of Rupture (MOR) 11, 1.4 and 9.9 MPa, HMOR at 1000°C 10.7 MPa and at 1400°C 5 MPa, pore size distribution D-50:54, 78 and 1600 nm (nanometer). In sample MSp heat treated at 1500°C, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) shows the formation of periclase, spinell and forsterite. Using the truncated flow cone described in ASTM C 860, and the samples MA and MSp have a value of 95% performs flow value measurement. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) performs micro structural investigations. Parameters of creep behavior of the samples are discussed.
