Recent work at DULY Research on electron planar devices in flat field rf structures is presented. This new class of rf structures is useful for mm-wave power generation in sheet-beam klystrons, for generation of flat beams from a round beam, and acceleration of flat beams in advanced linacs and future colliders. Several approaches of flat-field designs with effective aspect ratio ~10 are characterized here. Comparisons are made using the concept of a generalized "flat" impedance. High group velocity ~0.1 is achieved in a modified muffin-tin structure with side dielectric slab.
