Peak Demand Problems, Capacity Constraints and SD methodologies: The case of Hurghada Airport

摘要

The paper considers the problem of capacity constraints at an airport. It begins with an economic analysis of the effects of an increase in demand and its effect on capacity. This analysis is then shown to be limited. A causal loop diagram and a system dynamics model are then constructed. By running these models a deeper understanding of the problem is obtained. Full use is made of the archetype 'shifting the burden'. Modelling using SD gives management a practical guide to problem solving and configures Delay lags in a way which is a significant management tool.
