Transfollicular pathway in percutaneous absorption had long been considered of minor importance, because follicles occupy only a small area of total skin surface.~1,2 Recently this pathway has attracted attention as an important route for topically applied drugs such as agents for hair growing, vaccines, and DNA for therapy of various kinds of diseases.~3,4,5 Because the route is a shunt pathway, ~6which has no skin barrier like stratum corneum, the route seems to be suitable for delivering drugs and water-soluble macromolecules to hair follicles.
