Heavy vehicle fuel economy: our next great challenge

On April 21, 2000, United States Vice President Al Gore announced a new research partnership between engine and truck manufacturers and the U.S. government. This partnership plans to develop fuel-efficient trucks that will dramatically reduce U.S. dependence on oil and will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One of the goals is to achieve a two- or three-fold improvement in the fuel consumption of trucks.
