This paper presents the key steps of the development of a reliable industrial production process for transformation hardening of torsion springs with high power diode lasers (HPDL). On the basis of the customers requirement profile the process layout as well as a process monitoring system are developed. To produce a homogenous hardening geometry along half of the circumference of the spring two simultaneously working lasers are used. The required hardening geometry is achieved by optimisation of the relevant processing parameters such as the position of the laser beams relative to the spring, the processing speed and the laser power.
