Modern audio techniques, such as audio coding and sound reproduction,emphasize the importance of auditory perception as oneof the cornerstones for system design. In this article we present amethodology, the frequency-warped digital signal processing, as ameans to design or implement DSP algorithms directly in a waywhich is relevant for auditory perception. Several audio applicationsare considered in which this approach shows advantages whenused as a design or implementation tool or as a conceptual frameworkof design.
