We consider the restoration of musical recordings degraded by additive broadband noise such as t,apchiss, where maintaining fidelity of the underlying musical signal is of primary importance. By integratingpsychoacoustics into a restoration process based on perceptual optimality criteria, we take advantageof human auditory perception to optimise the compromise between noise reduction and rest,ored signalfidelity.
