We propose a new structure for rational multirate filter banks (FBs) using cosine modulation. More precisely, the proposed structure is intended to realize a critically sampled subband analysis where the L subbands are allowed to have bandwidths gien by integer ratios p_i/q_i, provided that sum_(i=1)~L p_i/q_i=1. We show that within our construction there exist FIR solutions allowing perfect reconstruction (PR). As opposed to previous structures the proposed method is applicable to arbitrary combinations of rational bandwidth ratios and suitable for a wide range of applications.
