摘要

It is shown that during the process of propagation of a surface polariton through a slender wedge or cone its wavelength decreases infinitely as it approaches the edge of those structure. As a result, the polariton focuses in a very small region and the strength of the wave fields increases anomalously. The enhancement of the nonlinear response on the rough surface of a metal, obtained in experiments, could be determined by this phenomenon. The phenomenon could be also used for creat on of a scanning near-field optical microscopy of a new type to investigate the submicron region of the surface.
