General picture of processes in pulsed chemical lasers on chain reaction of fluorine with hydrogen is presented. The phenomenon of heat acceleration is shown to be essential for reaction course and the conception of photothermal explosion is introduced. Simplified model based on this conception adequately describes energetic performances of chain HF laser. Prospects of creating petawatt picosecond lasers on chain reaction active media are considered and exemplified by laser assembly based on DF-CO_2 system.
