The authors present an adaptive on-line recognition system forrecursive writing, which is referred to as Cursivewriter. The system isuser-dependent and adapts to writers by updating their charactertemplates. The recognition strategy is based on dynamic programmingmatching. The system was implemented on a personal computer andrecognizes alphabets, numerals, Hiragana and Katakana as well as somesymbols. The system performs real-time recognition and the recognitionspeed is 0.2 seconds per pattern
