The work of Subcommittee 7 on unlicensed personal communications services (UPCS) devices

At the request of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) C63 on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) created a new Subcommittee, SC 7, to address the compliance of unlicensed personal communications services (UPCS) devices to the requirements of proposed FCC Part 15D. This paper provides a brief overview of the activities of C63 SC 7 to draft the standard, the requirements of FCC Part 15D, and the procedures developed by C63 SC 7 to demonstrate compliance, which are now contained in ANSI C63.17-1998.
