This study involves obtaining Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurements in an engine operated as a direct injection spark ignited engine. The engine is a symmetric four-valve pent-roof engine and measurements were taken in the region where the interaction between the fuel and air charge had been observed, but in these experiments, without fuel injection. These measurements were used to quantify the velocikty magnitudes and directions and RMS fuluctuation values surrounding three different injection timings.
