In order to be successful and remain competitive in hte twenty-first century, companies will need to reduce the impact of poor quality and control processes. As the demand for cost reductions nad improved quality increases it will be ever more necessary to control manufacturing processes by transfroming the collected data into usable information on a real-time basis. In order to get the infromation on a real-time basis, the Response time of the information system must be understood and reduced. Information must be presented in an easily understood format to the perople who can take quick. effective corrective action. Only by accomplishing these tasks can be collection of data contribute to competitiveness and profitability. Without this information, companies will not be competitive in the near future.
