In order to clarify the interaction between zones dressed by grinding and are positioned near each other on the outer surface of a pressure vessel, a series of numerical stress analyses were conducted, as was a hydraulic pressure test in a case in which one or two of the circular or elliptical dressed zones were positioned in the large-diameter straight pipe. Results obtained from the stress analyses using a commercial finite element code, ABAQUS, revealed that if two dressed zones having the same shape are positioned near each other, those in the longitudinal direction cause a higher level of stress than that of a single dressed zone, while those in the circumferential direction generally cause a lower level of stress. These results obtained through finite element analysis were confirmed to be in good agreement with experimental strain data obtained through a hydraulic pressure test.
