Reservoir operation strategy for a mountainous reservoir-river system during floods

The purpose of this paper is to find out the effects of a mountain reservoirriver network system due to reservior operations, through the reervoir and channel routing measurements. The operation rules will consider the dam safety and conservation of reserviors as well as the flood conditions of the downstream reaches. Optimal joint operation of the reserorirs is sought to minimize the flood potential of the downstream channels. These results will be used to forcast the flood hazards and also to service as a guide to operate the upstream reservoirs. A case study of the Tanshui river system in the northern Taiwan, which includes Shihmen and Feitsui reservoirs, is used to illustrate the present concepts.
