The paper presents the applications of new computer technologies in off-site emergency training of the experts and specialists on radiation safety and population protection. An application of computer databases and simulating s ystems in conjunction with geoinformation technologies is described. This application provides the realistic large-scale simulation of radiological accident consequences with regard to an impact of realising countermeasures, a response of the population and actions of the authorities. Such systems were applied during preparation and realisation of several practical games and exercises. During the practical games and exercises different situations were treatred, namely: intermediate and late phases after the radioactive contamination of the areas (Saint-Petersburg-93), early and intermediate phases after the Kola NPP accident (Exercise on the Kola peninsula in 1995 organised by EMERCOM, Russia and DHA, UN), early phase after the accident in a research reactor (Exercise Becquerel, France, 1996).
