Experience in public communication on radiation risk in russia after chernobyl

摘要

Historically stipulated peculiarities of radiation risk perception before and after the Chernobyl accident are considered as well as their influence on the state policy of elimination of radiation accident consequences. Roles of different political, social-econdomic and psychological factors are analysed. A few most interesting examples of public opinion on the eve of important state decisions concerning radiation risk are given, including laws regulating privileges and compensations to people affected by the Chernobyl disaster and other radiation accidents, decisions on construction and starting up nuclear power stations and other nuclearfule installations. Inadequate radiation risk percpetion by the public is illustrated, and necessity of special programs for information support to the state policy of nuclear regulation and radiation proctection in mass media is concluded.
