Evaluation of existing maintenance programmes using RCM methodology

This paper describes an approach to evaluate the effectiveness of existing test and maintenance programmes of technical systems. The method combines an analysis of the historical data on faults and repairs with an analysis of the history of functional testing and preventive maintenance programmes. Preliminary suggestions for changes in manitenance programmes can be based on simple indicators and underlying data on test and manintenace effectiveness. In final maintenance decision, additional criteria have to be taken into account, and thus a more formal decision analysis is often needed. The application of the maintenance analysis in the reliability centred maintenance (RCM) probject at Barseback nuclear power plant is described.
