Decision-making in reliability centred maintenance based on problabilistic and fuzzy approaches

Uncertainties in the decision making of Reliability Centered maintenance are discussed. It is shown that these uncetainities might be unaccpetable in many practical applications, leading to non-optimum maintenance strategies. Two alternative approaches, based on probabilistic and fuzzy techniques, are shown to correct this defect. Illustrating the discussion, an application is given. Considering the agitated discussions of the last years on the topic probability vs. fuzzyiness, the authors like to mention that both approaches complement each other in peaceful co-existence.
