Assumptions of knowledge base for engineering machine degradation assessment

The need for determining the degree of degradation of different technological objects being in operation for a long time is presented. Some information on the problem of bucket wheel excavators used in lignite mines in Poland is given. Basic notions relating to the theory of the degradation of machines are explained. An algorithm for the procedure of assessing the fatigue degradation of the load-bearing structure of excavators is presented. Assumptions about a knowledge base for an expert system which is being designed in order to support the assessment of the degradation of primary machines are made. An example of the modernisation of a bucket wheel excavator, utilised in the design of the knowledge base, is presented.
