This paper first defines and discusses the transdisciplinary nature of Multimedia information Systems and their development. paradigmatic foundations of information systems science and information systems development in general are then analysed next. The user interface is the visible part of a multimedia information system and the paradigms in its design are the essential core of this study from the viewpoints of psychology, communication and musicology. Finally, the computer science paradigms of implementing multimedia information systems are discussed.
