From a movie and actor metaphor to a multimedia framework for virtual museums

In this article we present a multimedia framework for virtual museums as an extension of the actor-movie metaphor, provided by many commercial authoring tools. These tools give to a wide range of users the opportunity to develop medium scale applications. However, virtual museums constitute an example of complex multimedia applications, whose design and implementation involve issues such as information storage and retrieval in multimedia databases, hyperlinks and audio and video synchronization.
