Conventionally, glucose oxidase (GOD) has been immobilized in a conducting polymer, polypyrrole (PPy), for a glucose sensor application in two methods. In one method GOD is utilized as a dopant for electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole on an electrode. However, the efficiency of GOD incorporation was not satisfactory because the immobilizaiton of GOD in PPy matrix is solely dependent upon the weak negative charges (carboxylic groups) on the protein surface. Polymerization of modified pyrrole monomer covalently bonded with GOD was another method. But the polymerization of the modifed monomer was problematic.
