Parkinsonian syndrome (PS) is considred to be the result of damage of nigral dopaminergic neurons leading to reduction of dopamine (DA) level in striatum. L-dihydroxiphenylalanine(L-DOPA), the precursors of dopamine which easily cross the the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is used as the most effective form of therapy for PS. However, chronic use of L-DOPA therapy often causes different side effects.
