The task of identification of the aerodynamic coefficients from a series of ballistic rockets from radar-tracked data has been carried out. ^The random noise component of the raw telemetry signals of the tracking radar has been removed using both an extended Kalman filter and a minimum model error state estimator. ^Then the estimated position, velocity, and flight path angles are used as measurements to extract the aerodynamic coefficients using the maximum likelihood estimation method together with the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno optimization scheme as a parameter-estimation problem. ^The plant for state estimation is third-order Gauss Markov, and the plant for parameter estimation is a two-degrees-of-freedom model of the vehicle. ^The estimated aerodynamic coefficients have been compared with the preflight theoretical values. ^Excellent consistency exists between the aerodynamic coefficients estimated from the flight data of a series of rockets of the same class. ^(Author)
